About the Cottage

Ben Nevis is a 100 year old cottage built of granite and with a tiled roof.  She stands proudly on quiet end of the High Street along with her companions.  One of our guests s said that 'it's more a house than a cottage', and you will see from the interior photos that there is a lot of space.  As well as the original cottage, a sympathetic extension on the rear of the property provides a large kitchen on the ground floor, and an additional shower room with a single bedroom upstairs.  So along with the toilet on the ground floor, she now boasts 3 bedrooms, 3 toilets, and a great dining room and lounge too - along with the large kitchen.  That means there is plenty of room for everyone (and hopefully, no fighting over the bathroom!).

We have deliberately kept Ben Nevis as a traditional cottage in style.  It's not clinical, it's not ikea - it's a lovely, homely place to while the time away and have a real 'cottage holiday'.  We've made sure it feels warm and cosy.  We place trust in our guests, you can turn the heating on and off, there are more towels if you need them,, we just ask you to wash and put them back in the cupboard.  The caretaker will help you out if you need more bedding during your stay - accidents happen! You won't need to bring anything with you - everything is there.

A quiet patio area at the rear with garden furniture allows you to sit out and take in the Highland air and listen to the birds sing, whilst relaxing with a coffee or a glass of wine.  There is also a lawned area at the rear perfect for the kids and dogs to play.  Dog owners are asked please to clean up after your pets.

The Cottage Layout

Ben Nevis is a 'double fronted' semi-detached cottage - more of a house really.  There is parking for one/two cars at the front of the house, just off the road - and further parking on street or in a car park a short distance away.  Although the house is on the High Street, and there is some traffic early morning and evening, it's very quiet during the day.  Deep stone walls keep the cottage warm in winter and cool in summer.  It's just so convenient and close to all the amenities that are on offer in Kingussie.

At the entrance, the huge red door welcomes you to the wide staircase inside, leading to the 3 bedrooms.  To the right is the dining room and to the left the lounge.  Moving through these rooms leads you to the large kitchen which is the heart of the holiday.  Much porridge has been made here, along with heartwarming soups from local ingredients, and succulent lamb chops from the local butcher!  Upstairs 3 comfortable bedrooms give you a restful night.  Many of our guests ask where they can get the bedding after their stay because they are so good!

Ben Nevis has a unique history.  Together with her sister cottage 'Garraline' next door, she once provided rest and refreshment for locals and visitors in a different way - as the 'Beinn Inn'.  This led to her being named 'Ben Nevis' when she was converted to a house, alongside her neighbour because the house next door on the other side is named after the local mountain range - the Monandalith mountains.  Ben Nevis is, however, set firmly in the Highlands in between the Cairngorms and Monandalith mountain ranges - and about 50 miles from her namesame in the West of Scotland.
